One of the highlights of my life happened in April, 2015, when I was fortunate to win a Helen Hayes Award for my performance as Hellen Keller in the original musical “Visible Language,” which was produced in the Fall of 2014 by WSC Avant Bard in Washington, DC at Gallaudet University’s Studio Theatre.
I graduated from Gallaudet University with a B.A. degree in Production & Performance and Educational Drama. My focus was on acting. I played the following major roles: Ophelia in “Hamlet,” Alice in “Alice in Wonderland,” and Lysistrata in “Lysistrata.”
I did internships as an actor for the Faction of Fools Theatre Company (Washington,DC) in the two productions; one was for the Fringe Festival and another one was for a fall season production, “The Mandrake.” Then in the Spring of 2014, I was cast as Lavinia in a Faction of Fools production of “Titus Andronicus.” I received very good reviews.
Also, I was able to go to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) in Ashland, Oregon. I was there for three weeks to observe the stage management program. The purpose of my observation was to see what a professional Theatre is like, especially the OSF, which is company one of the best known and biggest professional Theatre companies in the US.
I have film acting experience, too. I had a cameo role in one of ASL Films’ movies, “Gerald.” I was the lead character in a short film named “Sonnet 29,” produced by the Lucky Dragon Productions and directed by Rowan Brooks.
How do I approach acting? I am the kind of person who would go for any offer and grab it as a rich experience, a life opportunity, and a life lesson.
